Port of Itaqui Reports Record Cargo Throughput in the First Half of 2025

The Port of Itaqui, located in Maranhão, reached an impressive milestone in the first half of 2025, recording a record cargo throughput of 17.2 million tons. This result represents a 10% growth compared to the same period in 2024 and exceeds the annual targets by 7%. The data was released by the Maranhão State Secretariat for Social Communication (Secom-MA).



Cargo Movement Highlights


Among the types of cargo, solid bulk stood out, with soybeans leading the way at 8 million tons, a 10% increase. Fertilizers also showed remarkable performance, with nearly 2 million tons handled, representing a 39% growth. In addition, pig iron and copper registered significant increases of 20% and 19%, respectively.


In liquid bulk, which accounted for 25% of the total volume, tallow recorded an impressive 70% increase. Growth was also observed in caustic soda and petroleum derivatives, highlighting the diversity of operations carried out at the port.
